WOW!!! What an awesome display against quality opposition on their home deck. A huge carrot on the end for the winner it meant a home final and a showdown with 8th place, a finalist it could be debated does not deserve to even be there! What I enjoyed most about this performance is again early on we were under the pump, Carlton kicked out to a 4 goal lead, but just as the Hawks game two weeks earlier, we just clicked into gear and only went into 1/4 time 5 points down!
Having seen us fall short against the top 4 time and time again this season I had resigned to the fact that we could not seriously challenge for a flag in 2009, but our time would come in 2010 and beyond. However in recent weeks the gap between the Saints and Cat appears to be closing rapidly with both limping into the finals whilst teams like Adelaide, Collingwood and Bulldogs are storming in with great form behind them.
We are set for an absolute ripper finals series this year I think. Adelaide were simply awesome from the 20th minute mark of the first term. This was the most impressive win from them I have seen, maybe not points wise (that goes to the 118 point hiding we gave freo) but this match had so much on the line, it was 5th vs 6th, and it was on their home deck. Yet we absolutely smashed them. If anything the scoreboard flatters them as they were able to kick a few soft goals to start that last quarter before the Tri Colours decided they better run the game out rather then settle for a simple 40 win.
It has been documented heavily in the media but the run from defense is just sensational, and today’s display must send a huge warning to the top four that the crows are a serious threat this September. Even big James Sellar was linking up in defense and ran hard to receive and be in a position for that “get outta jail” handball should the runner get caught.
It would be a travisty of me not to mention surely one of the Marks of the Century by our boy Brett BIRDMAN Burton…………..
He flew as high as I’ve ever seen the man fly!! And he has treated us to some great marks over the years! We go in September with the best possible form we could be in, I’m really excited now that maybe, this just might be the year of the crow afterall!!
