Adelaide v Richmond

While the secret society of the Victorian Football League had us believe that the biggest game of the round was the top of the table clash between Geelong and St Kilda, we really know the biggest game this week was the Adelaide Crows road trip to the GC17. One noticeable addition to the squad was young Shaun McKernan who made his debut for the Tri Colours. Neil Craig’s push to blood our young squad for a future tilt at the Premiership gathered momentum as the Crows dominated early.

The Tip was devastating up forward in his home town and looked on target to match or better his efforts against the Bombers several weeks earlier with 4 goals at the main break.

The party at the GC17 did not continue in the fourth term as the Tigers hit back against the Crows’ solid game plan and we managed to salvage a 17 point victory. Although the solid defence of The Truck and Nathan Bock was able to see us through the assault. The decision not to alter the game plan may have showed on the scoreboard as a possible percentage booster turned out to be a hard fought win. Alternatively the heat of the GC17 may have impacted our ability to play out a full four quarters.

As we come up against the two Premiership heavyweights the need to develop a secondary game plan. We must applaud Neil Craig for his persistence with the decision to develop and stick to the game plan , however if the opposition coach is able to break the game apart and kick away we must be able to adapt to the situation. An ideal time to trial a secondary plan is against the Skunks at the AAMI this Saturday night.

Other promising signs for Adelaide this weekend were Taylor Walker’s 6 goals for Norwood and the Birdman played out the majority of the game on the ground for Woodville-West Torrens. Sitting 5th on the ladder after 14 rounds one game clear of the Lions thanks to Port Adelaide, 6 straight wins has us well placed. At a minimum we need to win all of our remaining home games, the final two away games we have will play a crucial role on our impact on September. Three of the top four teams on the run home is an imposing task.

A long awaited addition to The Tip’s Northern Stand will be unveiled this weekend, the remainder of this week will be spent slaving away in front of the box with the Ashes and Tour De France showcasing some of our nations greatest athletes.

The girls have agreed that we will be catching the Footy Express to the game and seeing as it is a night game the only options are middies or pre-mix cans. Seeing as the taste of cats piss is not all that appetizing a big night is in order both at the bar and on the scoreboard!

Snake count for round 14: 1 Pure Blonde (a light featherweight effort)
